Jubilee party is still strong, President Kenyatta maintains
President Uhuru Kenyatta has maintained that the Jubilee Party is still strong despite its downfall speculation.
The Head of State spoke today at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri to kick off the much-anticipated meeting with Mount Kenya leaders.
“I’ve heard that the ruling party no longer exists; they’re mistaken, and we’ll see from the recordings here that the Party is strong and has been functioning,” the President added.
The event kicked off with Health CS Mutahi Kagwe inviting Kenyatta to greet the thousands of attendants as he declared that the Head of State was the man of the day.
A visibly vibrant and energetic Kenyatta heartily greeted the crowd as he expressed amusement at the huge turnout.
“I had counted the few who were invited but when I was told more people came, I said it’s ok. Allow them in. Hata hii State lodge si ni yenu nyote? I thank you all for coming. I know you’ve come from Nairobi, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Embu, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Eldoret, Laikipia, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi na kwingineko,” said Kenyatta.
The President went on to say that he had been quietly monitoring what was being said about his administration, including reports that the Jubilee Party was dying.
“Some people have been saying Jubilee died. I don’t know what they mean. I’ll ask someone here to come and demonstrate what Jubilee as a party we have been doing. I want the entire nation to see where Jubilee has been and what it has been doing,” he said.
Kenyatta, in what appeared to be his first shot at his deputy William Ruto and his associates, warned that some people were moving around spreading lies about the administration, but that the truth would soon prevail.
“I told you time for politics will come, but before then let us first focus on service delivery. They come here, dance for you and tell you how they love you. We shall know…. I don’t want to talk ill about anyone but all I want is the truth, justice and fairness,” said Kenyatta.
However, there was chaos outside Sagana State Lodge as thousands of Jubilee supporters who had been locked out of the venue tried to force their way in.
The supporters did not have invitation cards but insisted on being allowed to access the venue on Wednesday.
Police had a hard time trying to mobilize the hundreds of supporters who were not on the list of attendants.
Allies of Deputy President William Ruto have been locked out of the crucial regional summit where Kenyatta is expected to name Raila Odinga as his preferred successor.
