Inua Jamii beneficiaries to get their money through M-PESA, government says

The government has started migrating all the lnua Jamii beneficiaries to the E-Citizen-Mpesa payment platform.

According to the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, the E-Citizen-Mpesa payment platform provides easy disbursement of cash in collaboration with Safaricom where beneficiaries access funds at MPESA agents by dialing USSD code *222#.

Principal Secretary Joseph Motari said the Inua Jamil payments for all beneficiaries would from January 2025, be done through MPESA. He said all beneficiaries are required to register Safaricom.

Motari advised those registering their SIM Card with Safaricom to ensure that their particulars match what is indicated in their ID cards. He said they will be required to activate their MPESA accounts to start receiving their funds.

“Those beneficiaries without registered Safaricom SIM cards/lines are required to register and have their MPESA activated at Safaricom/MPESA agent,” Motari said.

He said a campaign to inform beneficiaries of the transition and to advise those without Safaricom line to acquire them has been started and communication will be done via Radio, SMS and online posters on the social media platforms.

In a letter directed to all Regional Coordinators, County Coordinators for Children’s Services & Social Development, Sub County Offices for Children’s Services & Social Development and County Disability Service Officers, Motari said beneficiaries without Safaricom lines need to acquire them so that they are able to receive their funds.
