The Officer-in-Charge of the Zimmerman Police Post in Kasarani Division has been sentenced to two consecutive one-year jail term in connection to corruption charges.
Instead, she was ordered to pay a cumulative fine of Sh650,000.
While appearing before Isabella Baraza at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court yesterday, Police Inspector Susan Wambui Muiruri was found guilty and sentenced to a fine of Sh300,000 in count one or a one-year jail term in default.
She was also committed to a similar sentence for count two, alongside a mandatory fine of Sh50,000.
The complainant was further forced to pay Sh150,000 without justifiable cause.
The case revolved around allegations that Muiruri illegally detained suspects at the police post.
Investigations established that she solicited a bribe of Sh10,000 to facilitate negotiations between a complainant and a suspect.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has reiterated its call for public officials to uphold integrity, emphasizing that they serve in trust for the people.
The commission continues to warn against corrupt practices such as bribery, which undermine governance and hinder national progress.
Corruption, whether minor or large-scale, has far-reaching consequences, including a higher cost of living, a weakened rule of law, deteriorating infrastructure, increased unemployment and delayed or denied justice.
The conviction of Muiruri serves as a reminder that those engaged in graft will face the full force of the law.
