IEBC commissioner Boya Molu shortlisted for PS post

In a new list provided by the Public Service Commission (PSC), Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner Boya Molu is one of the applicants selected for the Principal Secretary position.

After posting the names of 477 people yesterday, the agency abruptly added additional names to the list finalizing the number of contestants to 585.

Principal Secretaries frequently participate in the planning and execution of governmental initiatives in State departments in addition to controlling how the county resources are distributed.

Currently, there are 44 Principal Secretaries working in various State departments.

Their tenure is anticipated to end as soon as President William Ruto makes new appointments.

The Kenya Kwanza administration has increased the seats to 49 in what appeared to be an effort of gratitude to those whose services propelled Ruto to presidency.

Former politicians and others with close ties to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance members, as well as various leaders of parastatals now make up majority of the list.

Top technocrats from former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet as well as some of the candidates who lost during the August 9 general elections have notable placements in the list.

Isaac Mwaura, former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominee who unsuccessfully ran for the Ruiru parliamentary seat, is also on the list.

Nixon Korir, former Lang’ata Member of Parliament is included in the list.

A notable addition to the list is former Nominated MP David Ole Sankok, who has been at odds with the previous ruling Jubilee Party since 2018 due to his outspoken support for Ruto’s presidential campaign.

Professor Julius Bitok, former ambassador for Kenya to Pakistan and a personal friend to Ruto, has been shortlisted.

Bitok ran for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat but lost to Jonathan Bii.

Other individuals who are President Ruto’s allies are Benjamin Tayari, former Kinango MP, Michael Kingi, former Magarini MP, Patrick Mariru (Laikipia West), Sylvanus Maritim (Ainamoi), and Lemein Korei (Narok South).

Former Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi, who lost to ODM’s Richard Onyonka in the Senate race, and former Samburu governor Moses Lenolkulal are also on the list.

Former Nairobi deputy governor Jonathan Mueke, who lost the Kitui gubernatorial race to Wiper’s Julius Malombe, is another significant figure on the list who is close to Ruto.

It’s also important to note that several previous security chiefs and almost 80% of Uhuru’s Principal Secretaries have been shortlisted.

Mary Chebukati Wanyonyi, the wife of IEBC head Wafula Chebukati, is also on the list of contenders.

Manager of corporate communications for IEBC, Tabitha Mutemi, and Margaret Nafula Makelo, wife of Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, are also on the list.
