House help arrested after employer found dead in Naivasha
The decomposing body of Wambui, a clinical officer, was exhumed with pieces of clothes tightly wrapped around the victim’s neck
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Naivasha have apprehended a 30-year-old nanny, Mary Chebet, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of her employer, Jane Wambui Njoroge.
The arrest follows reports received from the husband of the deceased, a resident of the Karai area in Naivasha, that his wife, who works at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, went missing on 4 July 2025, after leaving her workplace en route home.
According to the DCI, investigations were launched, and detectives zeroed in on Chebet as the prime suspect. Under interrogation, she led the officers to the victim’s home in Karai, where she revealed the horrifying scene, her employer’s body buried in a shallow grave behind the house.
“With the assistance of public health officers, the decomposing body was exhumed with pieces of clothes tightly wrapped around the victim’s neck. Chebet is currently in custody as detectives finalise investigations ahead of her arraignment,” it said in a statement.
Wambui, a clinical officer in charge of the pediatrician ward at the facility, was found dead at her home in Raini Village.
She was last seen at the hospital on Friday last week and her whereabouts remained unknown until the family reported the matter to police.
According to her husband, John Kimani, he last spoke with her that Friday but later received a call on Sunday informing him that she was missing.
Kimani, who works in Kitale, told KBC that he authorised members of the public who had gathered in his compound to break into the house to check whether she was inside.
