Detectives investigating the death of Paul Gicheru, an International Criminal Court (ICC) suspect who died on Monday went back to his house yesterday to record statements from all individuals present at the time of his demise.
His son had collapsed after receiving news of his father’s death and has since been recovering in hospital.
John Khaminwa, a family friend and lawyer said that Gicheru was a disturbed man recently before he died.
“He was not himself, something bothered him and I think he must have been stressed but I don’t like what I’m reading on social media the son must have collapsed because of the shock when he saw his father dying,” Khaminwa said.
Gicheru’s mother, Josephine Wambui received the news of her son’s passing at her home in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
“It’s not easy for someone to just drop dead like that when he was not even sick,” she told a local media station.
Gicheru’s sister termed his late brother as soft spoken and a family man.
“I spoke to him last Friday and he told me he was doing okay. He then asked me if my other siblings and myself visit our elderly mother and I told him we do. He was very soft-spoken; he only cared about his family,” she said.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has asked the relevant authorities led by Inspector General of Police to ensure speedy investigations into Gicheru’s death.
