Germany reaffirms support for regional peace, deepens ties with Kenya
Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to peace and stability in Africa, recognising Kenya’s leadership in regional mediation and global security efforts.
The visiting Germany Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Johann Wadephul said Kenya’s contributions to peace in Sudan, South Sudan, DRC, and Somalia, as well as its support initiatives for international missions like the UN-led effort in Haiti is commendable and should be supported.
He made the remarks during a special reception to honour his first visit in Kenya, held at the German Ambassador to Kenya, Sep praised Kenya’s contributions to peace in Sudan, South Sudan, DRC, and Somalia, as well as its support for international missions like the UN-led effort in Sebastian Groth’s residence Wednesday evening.
The ceremony was graced by the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.
“An evening of meaningful reflection and powerful conversations as we celebrated the enduring partnership between Kenya and Germany, grounded in shared values and a common belief in transforming the lives of our citizens. I joined leaders, partners, and friends at a special reception to welcome the visiting Foreign Affairs Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Dr. Johann Wadephul, on his first official visit to Kenya, a moment that speaks to the growing strength and depth of our bilateral relations.” said Mudavadi through his social media page.
“It was inspiring to engage with German nationals living in Kenya, Kenyan friends of Germany, the business and investment community, civil society, academia, the media, and our partners who continue to shape this dynamic partnership. The evening, graciously hosted at the residence of Germany’s Ambassador to Kenya, Sebastian Groth, reflected the strong people-to-people ties that anchor our cooperation.” he added.
The visiting German minister had earlier held a session with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.
The two ministers had earlier engaged in discussions to explore expanding trade and investment in renewable energy, green hydrogen, agriculture, digitisation, and skills development.
Dr. Mudavadi noted Germany’s growing economic footprint in Kenya, with over 120 companies operating locally, and highlighted the Kenya–Germany Structured Partnership on Labour Mobility as a milestone for skilled employment opportunities. He encouraged German firms to tap into Africa’s Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for market expansion and investment in high-growth sectors.
Also present at the dinner were Dr. Korir Sing’oei, PS, State Department for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Stella Mokaya Orina, Kenya’s Ambassador to Germany, and Ms. Judy Njau, Deputy Director-General, Europe and Commonwealth Directorate.
