Gachagua pledges mausoleum for late MP Johana Ng’eno during Emurua Dikirr visit

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader visited Ng’eno’s family and later proceeded to the former legislator’s gravesite, where he laid a wreath and observed a moment of silence. Ng’eno’s mother, Mama Mary Temas, relatives and former colleagues also laid flowers in his honour.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to build a mausoleum for the late former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno after visiting his family in Mogondo, Narok County, today, Friday.

Gachagua arrived in the constituency accompanied by Nyandarua Senator John Methu, former Ol Kalou MP Sammy Douglas Waweru and other political allies as he combined a condolence visit with a political engagement in the region.

The sombre ceremony came after the former MP died in a helicopter crash in Nandi County on February 28 alongside five other people.

The helicopter, which was flying from Endebes to Mosoriot, crashed at Kabiet sub-location in Mosop at about 4:30pm, according to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority. Ng’eno was buried on March 6 in a funeral attended by President William Ruto, government officials and MPs.

At the gravesite, Ng’eno’s family appealed to Gachagua to help construct a permanent structure over the grave, which remains largely exposed to the elements and was surrounded by a simple wooden-framed structure.

“We want this place to be built so that rain doesn’t fall over the grave. I had asked some people earlier, but they were not able to, so we are seeking your assistance to build it,” Mama Mary told Gachagua.

Gachagua accepted the request and promised to personally oversee construction.

“I will help in the construction of a mausoleum in remembrance of my friend Johanna Ng’eno. I have instructed the designers to develop a design that Mama will be comfortable with. Work should commence immediately,” he said.

He later added: “I have agreed. If we can find someone to design it the way the mother wants, I will personally build it because this leader who is resting here was a very close friend of mine.”

Gachagua also pledged assistance to Ng’eno’s brother, who is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

“The young man who is in hospital, we will also help,” he said.

The condolence visit preceded a DCP political rally at Mogondor Centre, where heavy security was deployed as Gachagua continued his political engagements in the region.

The visit also followed DCP candidate Vincent Kibet Rotich’s performance in the May 14 Emurua Dikirr by-election. Rotich garnered 10,760 votes against UDA’s David Kipsang Keter, who won with 18,266 votes.

Gachagua has described the DCP tally as significant, saying, “10,760 votes is no mean feat,” as the party seeks to expand its support base in the Rift Valley ahead of the 2027 General Election.
