GAA fraud case of Sh122M resumes

The Government Advertising Agency(GAA) fraud case hearing of the Sh122.3 million shillings implicating Member of Parliament(MP) Ayub Savula and former Principal Secretary Sammy Ishiundu Itemere has resumed at the Milimani Law Courts.
Milimani chief magistrate Francis Andayi yesterday adjourned the case where Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Ayub Savula and former Principal Secretary Sammy Itemere have been charged alongside 28 others with conspiring to defraud the government.
This is after the DPP through prosecution counsel told the court that the investigating officer had informed him yesterday about the unfortunate death of National Lands Commission official, Jenifer Wambua in which she was to appear as a state witness.
“Your honour there is a new development in the case on the passing of our witness Jennifer Wambua who was stood down for cross-examination. The investigating officer has said investigations into her murder has commenced to find out what is the cause of death,” the prosecution said.
The case was being mentioned virtually to fix a hearing date and directed that the matter to be mentioned before him in an open court tomorrow morning.
Wambua had been missing since Friday last week and her body was found on Monday at the City mortuary in Nairobi.
Savula and Itemere were charged in October 2018 alongside 28 others for conspiring to steal Sh122, 335,5000 from the Ministry of Information Communication and Technology.
Also implicated in the case are wives of Savula, Melody Gatwiri and Hellen Kemboi as well as former Director of GAA Dennis Chebitwey.
The swindled payments incurred the government a debt of over 2.5 billion shillings to media companies through unpaid advertisement services.
