Four suspects in custody over Ongata Rongai home break-in
Four suspects are in custody in connection with the Ongata Rongai home break-in that was captured on viral CCTV footage.
According to police spokesman Bruno Shioso, the suspects are currently helping the police with investigations.
The police have so far recovered a browning pistol, cash believed to be proceeds of the robbery, and items of clothing worn by the robbers on that fateful night were recovered.
He indicated that the dragnet is being widened to arrest more suspects who are on the run.
“The Inspector-General has instructed a crackdown within the areas and environs of Ongata Rongai targeting organized criminal gangs terrorizing and robbing law-abiding citizens,” he stated.
He further urged the public to cooperate with the police and share valuable information through available hotlines.
In the 2 am incident video that has since gone viral on social media, two of the thugs are seen wielding pistols, another an AK-47, and the other a machete that he used to break the window of the car the lady was in.
The thugs were also seen taking her to the house where they ransacked for valuables.
The arrests began yesterday after Interior Ministry Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, accompanied by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, paid an impromptu visit to Lemelepo in Ongata Rongai yesterday to assess the security situation, following a spate of robberies reported in the area.
During the visit, the CS addressed a shocking violent robbery caught on CCTV, in which six heavily armed men attacked a female motorist as she drove into a home.
The AK47 rifle-wielding gang was captured on CCTV as they attacked the woman who was driving into her residence.
Matiang’i assured residents of maximum security, stating that work on a Kandisi police post, which could be upgraded to a police station, would begin immediately.
The CS also directed that all criminal activities recorded on the Occurrence Book (OB) be forwarded to his office by this morning.
A special team was to be deployed, according to Matiang’i, to examine the CCTV footage and possibly aid in the arrest of the thugs.
Meanwhile, the National Police Service noted officers in Kajiado are in pursuit of the remaining thugs.
“National Police Service officers in Kajiado are working round the clock to bring the culprits to book. Our sympathies go out to the innocent lady, her family, and friends,” the NPS said.
“The National Police Service shall continue to partner with the public under our signature program, Community Policing Initiative, in order to enhance the security and safety of neighbourhoods while providing an enabling environment for information sharing based on trust.”
