The widow of the late former Laikipia Senator and Internal Security Minister GG Kariuki, Gladys Wairimu Kariuki has passed away.
Her death was confirmed by the family spokesman Jimmy Waigwa, who said the late Minister’s wife died while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital after a short illness.
Born in 1945, Gladys was a distinguished figure in Laikipia County, known for her dedication to public service and community empowerment.
She was a prominent farmer in Rumuruti Ward, she served in various capacities over the years, including as chairlady of the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO), Laikipia branch, a councillor in the former Nyahururu Municipal Council, and as a teacher at Ngarenaro Primary School in Nyahururu town.
Gladys will be fondly remembered for her tireless efforts to unite and uplift women through numerous empowerment programs during her tenure at MYWO.
A devoted member of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), she was actively involved in congregations in Rumuruti, Nyahururu, and Nairobi.
Gladys Wairimu Kariuki is survived by her five children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Her legacy of service, faith, and community dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was married to the former Late Laikipia Senator Godfrey Gitahi Kariuki famously refered as GG Kariuki who died in 2017.
