Former Interior CS Matiang’i yet to record statement on alleged raid by police last week, DCI boss Amin says

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohammed Amin has disclosed that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has not made any official complaint on the alleged raid that occurred in his Karen home on Wednesday last week.

Through a statement, the DCI boss also disclosed that the directorate had recorded statements from the VIP police deployed to the former Interior minister’s home on the alleged night.

“After a comprehensive investigation, the DCI has determined that no complaint has been made at any police station regarding the alleged raid. Through our efforts, we have recorded statements from the VIP police deployed to Dr. Matiang’i’s residence on the night in question, as well as statements from the private security company guarding the property,” the statement read.

He further disclosed that investigations had established that a Subaru car that was spotted by journalists entering the home of Dr. Matiang’i during the alleged raid last week belonged to a private businessman and not the police.

“In our Investigations Status Update last week, there was a question from the Media about the ownership of a Subaru car, KDK 488L, that according to the Nation Journalist was captured entering the home of the former CS. We have since established that the vehicle belongs to Inter Management Group Limited and was at the time being driven by Peter Gacheru. Peter Gacheru is one of the directors at the Inter Management Group Limited and is a neighbour to the former CS at the Karen Ngong View Estate which is a gated community,” he stated.

Yesterday afternoon, a contingent of police officers raided the former CS’s house in search of CCTV footages of the day of the alleged raid.

The officers based from the DCI broke the main gate, after watchmen at the gate denied them entry.

The move came despite court declined to grant DCI orders to access CCTV footages of the former minister at his home.

The DCI sought orders from the court saying it wanted to identify the persons involved in the alleged raid following claims that they were police officers.
