FKF Premier League title contenders falter as Brewers gets prime spot
The Brewers have now won 14 matches total and are now back to attempting a 14th title with less than eight matches left for the 2024/25 campaign to come to a halt
Tusker FC returned to the summit of the FKF-Premier League on Sunday after a hard fought 1-0 over 10 man Nairobi City Stars at the Dandora Stadium even as immediate challengers in the title-fight dropped points.
Dennis Wanjala’s lone second half strike was enough to push Charles Okere’s men to top of the standings with 51 points off 27 matches. The Brewers have now won 14 matches total and are now back to attempting a 14th title with less than eight matches left for the 2024/25 campaign to come to a halt. In the past five matches, Tusker have won thrice and drawn twice.
Meanwhile Kenya Police FC and Gor Mahia FC were not as lucky as they failed to get maximum points at the weekend thus messing up their plans. The Law Enforcers under Burundian national Etienne Ndayiragije fell 1-0 against next door rivals Ulinzi Stars courtesy of an early strike by the KDF Captain Boniface Muchiri at the Ulinzi Complex Saturday.
Incidentally, this was Ulinzi’s first win after a string of four consecutive losses. Head Coach Danstan Nyaudo has been a man under the spotlight with the soldiers in a poor 12th place after 27 matches with 31 points to boot. The former champions have suffered a difficult period this season, winning only 7 matches against 10 losses.
Police in second place with 49 points, are very much still in the race despite having led the standings for about two months straight. Inconsistency seemed to have snuck in somewhere between a good run thus costing them valuable points. In the last five matches, the boys in blue have only won twice but drawn twice and lost once in the same phase.
Defending champions Gor Mahia on Sunday left a 1-0 margin slip in the dying embers of the game against Sofapaka FC to secure a 1-1 result leaving fans furious. K’Ogalo who are now third with 47 points; have a four point deficit against the table-toppers and will hope favor goes their way in consequent matches. The 21 times league winners, who were playing the match at Dandora Stadium, fell short with many missed chances.
Even as Sinisa Mihic’s men might be gnashing their teeth in anguish, Batoto ba Mungu was the happier with the point away against a familiar foe. Currently in eighth place with 38 points, Sofapaka who are 2018 League winners, have had a fairly solid season by all accounts.
In other interesting results of the weekend, AFC Leopards SC who is struggling for sharpness lost 1-0 to Posta Rangers Saturday. This was the sixth match straight Ingwe failed to securer a win leaving the fans disillusioned. The Big Cats are presently in seventh place with 37 points with a match in hand. Red-hot Shabana FC is now in an impressive fourth place after a 4-2 win over FC Talanta Sunday. This was the third straight win for Peter Okidi’s Gusii based side as the Tore Bobe dream of beating the odds.
