Ex-Nairobi Water staffer charged with forgery of KCSE certificate, illegal acquisition of Sh8million as salary
A former employee of the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC) Babra Gladys Asembo was today arraigned to face forgery charges and illegal acquisition of public funds amounting to Sh8million as salary after she allegedly used a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) to secure employment but ha since been dismissed.
While appearing before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court she was charged with multiple counts including fraudulent acquisition of Sh8,337,563.95 from NCWSC, deceiving a principal contrary to Section 41(2) as read with Section 48(1) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003, forgery contrary to Section 345 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code, and uttering a false document contrary to Section 353 of the Penal Code.
Asembo is said to have used the forged certificate to secure employment and fraudulently acquire public funds as dues as an ICT Assistant.
Eacc commenced investigations following a report alleging that Asembo had used a forged KCSE certificate to secure employment at NCWSC as an ICT Assistant.
The investigations established that the certificate she presented was falsified but purported to be a genuine document issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Upon completion of the investigations, the Commission forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who reviewed the evidence and approved the charges against the suspect.
Asembo was initially arrested on September 3, 2025, and released on a cash bail of Sh25,000, pending arraignment on September 5, 2025.
However, she failed to appear in court and went into hiding, prompting the court to issue a warrant of arrest on September 17, 2025.
She was re-arrested today at her hideout and subsequently taken to court, where she denied all the charges.
She was released on a bond of Sh1,000,000 with two sureties of a similar amount.
