Ex-Mathioya MP Njakwe Githiara implicated Sh6.4million land fraud probe
Former Mathioya Member of Parliament (MP) Francis Njakwe Githiari has been arrested in connection with an alleged Sh6.4 million land fraud scheme involving a disputed property in Ngong.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from the Land Fraud Investigation Unit established that Githiari allegedly entered into an agreement with a couple for the purchase of a parcel of land intended for the construction of a double-storey residential house.
Investigators further found that the former legislator allegedly presented himself not only as the seller of the land but also as the contractor in charge of developing the property, with the total project cost set at Sh40 million payable in instalments.
The complainants reportedly deposited Sh 6.4 million into his account as part of the agreed payment plan.
However, complications emerged when the couple visited the construction site and allegedly learned of ownership disputes involving third parties who had filed claims over the same parcel of land. The revelations prompted them to halt further payments and report the matter to authorities.
“However, during routine visits to the construction site, the couple overheard disturbing news: claims of ownership issues regarding the land had emerged,” the DCI said in its statement, adding that the situation raised red flags that triggered a formal investigation.
Following inquiries, detectives concluded that Githiari had fraudulently obtained the funds.
The case file was subsequently forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved charges of obtaining money by false pretences under Section 313 of the Penal Code.
The DCI confirmed that Githiari is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
