EACC summons Barchok, Wangamati after DPP’s not to charge them with corruption
Bomet governor accused of conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and several other individuals accused of corruption to appear at Integrity Centre at 8 am on Monday for processing and arraignment.
This is after the commission received consent to prosecute them from the Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga on Friday, a day after he revealed that he had approved recommendations from the anti-graft agency.
Ingonga, however, directed that further investigations be conducted into allegations levelled against Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi and his Marsabit counterpart Mohamed Ali.
Also to be charged alongside Barchok is Evans Kipkorir Koech, the director of Chemasus Construction Company.
They are accused of conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
The former Bungoma county chief, on the other hand, will be charged alongside Michael Simiyu Wangamati, Nicholas Wangamati and Edward Barasa Wangamati, who are directors of Skyman Freighters Limited and Nabwala Construction Ltd.
Others are Edward Maaya Makhanu, who holds directorship in Fastect Suppliers Limited, Kelco Builders, Mundesi Contractors Ltd, Nabweso Builders Ltd and Valeria Construction Ltd; Sandra Soita Nasambu, Accountant at Skyman Freighters Limited and Director, Fastect Suppliers Limited, Kelco Builders and Valeria Construction Ltd; Wafula Wakoli Chesititi, Supervisor at Skyman Freighters Limited and Director, Fastect Suppliers Limited, Kelco Builders and Valeria Construction Ltd.
In addition, Bramwel Mukewe Wafula; Juma Swaleh Juma, Director at Fastect Suppliers Limited, Kelco Builders and Valeria Construction Ltd; Jimmy Wekesa Barasa, Director at Casilanic Building and Co. Contractors and Nashikub Civil Contractors Ltd; Christopher Masika Makokha, a Director at Casilanic Building and Co. Contractors and Nashikub Civil Contractors Ltd; and Joseph Wanyonyi Wekesa, a Director at Nashikub Civil Contractors Ltd will also be arraigned.
They are facing charges of conflict of interest and irregular procurement processes through fraudulent companies connected to county officials and associates of the former governor.
