Education CS nominee Machogu guarantee affordable education
Cabinet Secretary nominee for Education Ezekiel Machogu has committed to ensure availability of affordable basic education in the country.
While appearing for vetting today before the Committee on Appointments at the National Assembly, he said that he will see to it that at least 30,000 teachers are employed by the start of January next year.
“Once I get recommendations of the final report from the task force, this is one of the areas that we will exert effort and focus to ensure our children get education,” he said.
While addressing the mismanagement of funds in the Education sector, Machogu assured that he will give no space to cartels, stressing the importance of an educated nation.
According to the CS nominee, he is aware of how the government functions and that any cartels will be dispersed soon as he is in office.
He added that he would make sure proper monitoring was in place and that he would not permit the loss of funds intended for education in the country.
“I am a bottom up person and I understand the government system. I know the way it operates and in case there are cartels in that ministry I think it’s time they start packing and go elsewhere,” Machogu said.
“If there is anything that I’ll not allow is education broking. I like the value for money, shilling by shilling, and we will do proper monitoring to ensure we don’t lose any money at all,” he added.
Machogu, during the August polls, ran for the Kisii gubernatorial seat with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
He also served as a district commissioner and a member of parliament for the Nyaribari Masaba district.
