Ten people have been confirmed dead in a road accident along the Homa Bay – Kendu Bay Road.
This is after two people who sustained serious injuries died while undergoing treatment at the Homa Bay County referral hospital.
The accident occurred after a passenger matatu collided head-on with a fuel tanker yesterday evening.
Confirming the 4pm accident, Homa Bay county police commander Samson Ole Kinne said eight people died on the spot who included a woman, a schoolboy and six men.
Kiine said the driver of the passenger vehicle was overtaking another Nissan leading to a head on collision with the tanker.
Those who were injured were rushed to Homa Bay County hospital for medication while the dead were preserved at the hospital mortuary.
The two vehicles have since been towed to Homa Bay police station.
Governor Gladys Wanga has sent a message of condolences to the families’ victims who perished in the grisly road accident.
