I’m in Azimio to stay, Karua assures Kenyans as the Kikuyu elders endorse her as Raila’s DP

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has assured Kenyans that she is in Azimio One Kenya coalition to stay.

Karua intimated that she will not leave the coalition even if she is not named even as Raila Odinga’s running mate.

Karua who was speaking to leaders from Nyeri county, assured the leaders that the country is in safe hands if Raila is elected president.

“As a leader, I will not leave Azimio even if I am not named Odinga’s running mate,” she said, “we have fought together to liberate this nation and I know Odinga is the safest pair of hands for Kenyans so I will soldier on with Azimio campaigns.”

Karua spoke just a day after she faced an interview panel that is geared towards choosing Odinga’s running mate.

On the same issue, the Kikuyu Council of Elders have endorsed Martha Karua for Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya Alliance deputy presidential candidate.

The elders who spoke through their Chair Wachira wa Kiago said that Karua is the best candidate for the slot considering her experience in Government.

“We will be very pleased as a community and as Azimio if we get Martha Karua as a running mate and later as the deputy president,” Kiago said

“In every election, we must play a role in determining leaders to be elected from the MCA seat to that of a Governor, Senator and even the Presidential position. Because if they slip, the country falls,” he said.

Kiago assured Kenyans that the decision was arrived at after consultations with various groups of Kikuyu elders across the country.

“We were at the Coastal Region last weekend with over 800 elders from the Kiama Kiama and the Kikuyu Council of Elders where we deliberated on the elections matters,” he said.

The Azimio running mate interview ends today with the panel expected to give names of the top three candidates for final decision making.
