DCI issues alert on eight Al Shabaab terror suspects

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued an alert on eight terror suspects some linked to the Al Shabaab militia.
The eight are; Kassim Musa Mwarusi aka Abu Miki, Mohamoud Abdi Aden aka Mohamed Yare, Peter Gichungu Njoroge aka Mustafa and Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir aka Ikrima.
Others are Erick Njoroge Wachira aka Mohamed Njoroge aka Moha, Abdurahman Hija aka Mnubi, Ahmed Ali Mohamed and Mohamed Ali Hussein.

According to police report, the eight are said to be involved in devising terror plans against the country.
“The suspects who are highly trained, armed and dangerous have been dispatched to the country to commit acts of terror,” stated DCI.
The suspects who are on the run or missing are understood to have been behind some of the recent sporadic attacks targeting security personnel and the civilians in parts of Lamu and Isiolo Counties.
“The team had been deployed to carry out an attack using a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) but the plan was disrupted after security personnel intercepted the VBIED and arrested three militants at MERTI area in ISIOLO County,” the agency said.
Mwarusi aka Abu Miki has been on the radar of the Kenyan law enforcement agencies for his involvement in criminal activities including radicalization and recruitment of unsuspecting youth into violent extremism in parts of Likoni, Diani and Ukunda.
Meanwhile, Mohamud Abdi Aden alias Mohamed Yare who hails from Garissa County was first arrested in April 2014 for providing information to Al-Qaeda linked Jihadist group on possible targets that the group could attack in the country before being released according to the notice from the DCI.
“He was prosecuted and charged in the court of law with collection of information contrary to section 29 and 30 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). However, he was acquitted on 31st March 2017 and subsequently rejoined Al Shabaab in Somalia. He was part of the cell that planned the Dusit attack in January 2019,” the notice read.
Another suspect was identified as Njoroge aka Mohamed Njoroge escaped to Somalia to join Al-Shabaab following reports about his notoriety for robbery with violence in parts of Mukurweini and Karatina sub counties.
Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir alias Ikrim who was also believed to have been part of the group that organized attacks in Kenya and the neighboring Uganda.
“Previously, he was a close ally to Al-Shabaab leaders including Fazul Abdullah Mohamed, Abdi Godane and Salim Saleh Swaleh Nabhan. He was involved in planning of the Dusit attack of 2019 and 2010 Kampala bombing attacks,” the DCI stated.
According to the detectives, the agency stated that at one time Ikrim resided in Nairobi’s South C area and Kongowea and Nyali in Mombasa.
DCI are appealing to members of the public to remain on high alert and volunteer any information that would lead to the apprehension of the terror suspects.
