Crisis looms at CDF head office as chair quits for politics

A leadership crisis looms at the National Government Constituency Development Fund board (NGCDF) after it emerged that it does not have directors to run its operations.

This came as the current Chairman Elias Mbau tendered his resignation to venture into politics and will contest the Maragua parliamentary seat in Murang’a County.

The resignation of Mbau further complicates the operations of the board which has been left with board members who legally represents Principal secretaries of parent ministries while the public is unrepresented.

He said that crucial decisions affecting the operations of the board cannot be made due to lack of quorum adding that it could affect financing of current projects across the constituencies.

According to Mbau, the board which is operating under a new law enacted two years ago, does not have a Chief Executive officer saying the Cabinet Secretary for devolution and planning has been delaying a substantial appointment.

He said that the board had conducted interviews for the post of CEO and three names forwarded to the Cabinet secretary who is supposed to hand them over to parliament before appointment.

“The CS should move with haste and make the necessary arrangements for the names to be submitted to parliament so that the board can run smoothly”.

Mbau was speaking to the press during the handing over ceremony of a school bus for Nyondia secondary school in Gilgil funded by the area CDF.

He said the board had achieved a lot since he was appointed noting that Kenyans can now associate themselves with the projects that have so far been done at the grassroots level.
