Court uphold election of Wajir governor Ahmed Abdullahi

The High court has upheld Ahmed Abdullahi’s victory in the August 9,2022 gubernatorial election, dismissing a petition filed by Hassan Mohammed challenging his victory.

Justice George Dulu dismissed claims that Abdullahi’s election was marred with irregularities and that it was held unfairly.

In the petition, Hassan had argued that Ahmed’s victory was marred with gross discrepancies in election results Form 37As and that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had unlawfully postponed the election in Eldas constituency within Wajir county to August 10.

He argued that the total votes cast in some polling stations were more than the total voter turnout captured by the KIEMS kits.

He also said that no communication was made to the candidates concerning the postponement.

Justice Dulu however ruled out his petition saying that the election was conducted lawfully.

He dismissed rigging claims saying that no proof supported the allegations and said that he was convinced that the alteration was out of human errors and therefore did not affect the results.

In last year’s election, Abdullahi garnered 35,533 while Hassan who contested under a Jubilee party ticket came second with 27,224 votes.
