Co-op Bank is undertaking started an account activation campaign around various estates in Nairobi where it has outlets in a strategy aimed at attracting new customers.

The lender’s teams have so far visited its outlets in Zimmerman, Kamakis and Umoja where they have been conducting on-the-spot free activation for those seeking to open new accounts.

Co-op Bank has in recent months expanded its footprint by opening 15 new branches bringing the total number of outlets to 213.

They include Rumuruti, Isebania, Luanda, Ugunja, Mahi Mahiu, Naromorou, Eldama Ravine, BBS Mall, Imaara Mall, Eldoret Airpot Road, Westlands Square Executive Centre, Ruiru Nord Mall, Dagoretti Market and the recently-opened on at Kibwezi.

Despite its array of digital banking channels and agency banking, the expansion strategy is informed by the fact that mortar and brick outlets are still important as there are customers who prefer speaking to real persons when seeking help to address complex banking needs, such as loan processing or setting up investment accounts.

Experts hold that the direct interaction with knowledgeable staff ensures that customers receive comprehensive support and advice throughout these transactions.

It has also come with other advantages such as providing job opportunities for graduates. According to the Q1 2025 Investor Briefing, Coo-op Bank’s staff establishment stands at 5,888 workers.
