Migori County Speaker, seven others released on Sh100,000 cash bail

Migori County Assembly Speaker Boaz Okoth and seven other individuals have been released on Sh200,000 cash bail and one surety or bond of Sh200,000 after facing charges for breaking into the County Assembly’s office.

The seven are; Philip Ochieng, Boniface Otieno, Peter Okinyi, John Allan, Vincent Otieno, Jackline Odira, and Clifford Ochieng alongside the county speaker were charged with handling stolen property.

Appearing before Migori Chief Magistrate Dickson Onyango on Thursday, the eight denied the charges.

The case is set for mention and hearing on February 17 and March 15 respectively.

They were arrested by police on yesterday morning at the county assembly premises.

The eight were booked at the Migori Police Station following the arrest.

The Speaker is alleged to have broken into the office of the Assembly Chief Finance Officer and carted away files and computers on Tuesday night.

Okoth and his accomplices are said to have taken away a bunch of files and several computers and transferred them to his office.

The finance officer got wind and alerted police officers that his office was being vandalized.
