Mombasa residents will have to wait a little longer for the arrival of MV Safari following a court injunction filled at Mombasa High Court mid this year to halt the construction of the ferry.
Kenya Ferry Services Managing Director Baraka Gowa says MV Safari was expected to arrive in the country by the end of this year to complement MV Jambo at the Likoni channel, but the intrigues in the court case have been a hurdle.
Kenya’s quest to reduce congestion at the Likoni Channel in Mombasa County by buying two new ferries from Turkey, MV Jambo and MV Safari was first met with resistance in June this year when a firm contracted by the Kenya Ferry Services filed a case in court challenging the project.
The High Court in Mombasa however later allowed delivery of MV Jambo from Turkey which was commissioned in August.
The arrival of MV Jambo was welcomed by locals who hailed the government’s efforts in decongesting operations at the Likoni – Ferry Channel
