Gachagua disparage PCEA Woman’s Guild in police blue uniform jibe against government
Kenya Kwanza Coalition presidential running mate candidate Rigathi Gachagua has blown a storm over disparaging remarks targeting Woman’s Guild in blue police uniform jibe against the government.
The Woman’s Guild is a Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) international and interdenominational women religious fellowship that celebrated 100 years of existence within the East African region a fortnight ago.
In a condescending quip during today’s rally in Nyandarua County, Rigathi said if they win the presidency, they will change the blue police uniform and revert to the earlier regalia since the current police service attire belongs to the Woman’s Guild.
He claimed the National Police Service (NPS) members have suffered in the hands of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and his Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.
“You have suffered so much in the hands of Matiang’i and Kibicho. Even the new blue uniform that you don’t want will be revoked and we return to the old one. The blue one will be left for PCEA church. It is the uniform of Woman’s Guild” (Mumesumbuliwa sana na Matiang’i na Kibicho. Ata ile uniform ya blue ambayo hawataki, tutawaondolea tuwarudishie ile ya Kitambo. Hiyo ya blue tutarudishia kanisa ya PCEA. Hiyo ni uniform ya Woman’s Guild.)”. Rigathi said.
Deputy President William Ruto who is also the coalition’s presidential candidate was present accompanied by a host of other leaders.
They spoke during the Nyandarua County Economic Forum in Ol Jororok where Kenya Kwanza committed to turn agriculture, the region’s main source of livelihoods into a profitable venture.
The Mathira Member of parliament pledged that if Kenya Kwanza wins the August 9 General Elections, they would sort out the salaries of police officers which he said have stagnated since the late President Mwai Kibaki left office.
He urged the police not to bow down to pressure from above saying they will make right every wrong that will happen to them once they win the coming polls.
“We want to tell chiefs that we have heard they are being intimidated to help Raila win, failure to which they risk losing their jobs. Don’t worry, we only have 57 days remaining and we will give you back your jobs. We want to guarantee all officers that their jobs are safe.
