Gor Mahia issue strict safety rules ahead of Pyramids clash

Gor Mahia has issued strict matchday safety guidelines ahead of their CAF Champions League first preliminary-round first leg against reigning African champions Pyramids FC at Nyayo National Stadium, tomorrow, Sunday, September 6, 2026.
The high-profile encounter, scheduled for a 3pm kick-off tomorrow, September 6, 2026 will mark Gor Mahia’s return to Africa’s premier club competition after winning the 2025/26 FKF Premier League title for a record-extending 22nd time.
Fans attending the match have been warned against carrying weapons, firearms, ammunition, fireworks, pyrotechnics, smoke devices, laser pointers, sharp objects and glass containers into the stadium. Alcohol, narcotics and other intoxicating substances are also prohibited.
The restrictions also cover large flags, banners and poles that do not comply with CAF regulations, as well as unauthorised commercial advertising materials. Discriminatory, offensive or politically motivated messages will not be allowed, while whistles, horns, megaphones and other unauthorised noise-making devices are also banned.
Drones and unauthorised professional broadcasting equipment are prohibited, with supporters further advised against carrying large bags, bulky items or anything that could compromise public safety or disrupt match operations.
The measures come less than two weeks after Nyayo Stadium witnessed disorder following Gor Mahia’s FKF Super Cup clash against Tusker on August 23, prompting an FKF investigation.
Gor Mahia face a formidable opponent in Pyramids, who secured their maiden CAF Champions League crown in 2025 after defeating South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns 3-2 on aggregate in the final.
K’Ogalo will be seeking a strong home result before travelling to Egypt for the return leg, scheduled between September 11 and 13. The winner of the tie will meet either South Sudan’s El Merreikh Bentiu or Somalia’s Heegan FC in the next round.
Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor has urged his players to show mental toughness, stressing that the continental assignment demands a different level of preparation and focus from a regular league fixture.
