Case challenging Wanga’s win as Homa Bay governor set to start on November
The election petition pitting Homa Bay county governor Gladys Wanga and former Nairobi governor Dr Evans kidero is set to start on November 24.
This is after Justice Roselyn Aburili on Friday during the pretrial conference directed the date of the hearing at the Homa Bay High Courts.
Kidero filled the petition at the High Court challenging the results the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) used to declare Wanga as the county governor.
Following consultations with both councils of petitioner (Dr. Evans Kidero) and respondent (Gladys Wanga), justice Aburili issued guideline for hearing and the determination of the case, asking both sides to strictly adhere them to enable them conclude the case within the stipulated time, which is six months.
Kidero is expected to produce more than 17 witnesses in the case.
In the case, Kidero has listed Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) as the first respondent.
Homa Bay IEBC returning officer Fredrick Apopa is listed as the second respondent while governor Wanga and her Deputy Oyugi Magwanga were listed as the third and fourth respondents respectively.
Wanga and Oyugi were declared winners returning officer Apopa after garnering 244, 599 votes against Evans kidero and his running mate Elijah kodo ’s 154, 184 votes.
