Mama Rocks–Burger Kitchen liquidation hearing set for Thursday

Samantha Amimo Mwedekeli, one of the founders of Mama Rocks–Burger Kitchen, has filed a petition to liquidate the company.
In a notice, she indicates that the petition filed before the Commercial and Tax Division at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on October 16 last year with the hearing scheduled for Thursday, June 12.
“That the said Petition is directed to be heard before the High Court, Commercial and Tax Division sitting at Nairobi, Milimani Law Courts on the 12th June, 2025 at 9 O’clock or soon thereafter and any other Creditor or Contributory of the said Company desirous to support or oppose the making of an order on the said Petition may appear at the time in Court either in person or by his advocate for that purpose and a copy of the Petition will be furnished by the undersigned to any Creditor or Contributory of the said Company requiring such a copy on payment of the regulated charge for the same,” it adds.
The business, which was launched in 2016 by Samantha and and her sister, Natalie, quickly became a vibrant and trendy burger joint for its eclectic menu, inspired by Pan African flavours and local ingredients.
However, in January this year, the two sisters put out a notice indicating it was temporarily closing down.
“Dr Mama Rocks family, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close down our doors as we work on some important changes for the future of Mama Rocks. We want to thank you for your incredible support over the years, and we promise to keep you updated on our next steps. This isn’t – it’s just see you later,” Samantha and Natalie said.
Apparently, however, it appears to have been a cryptic farewell.
Before its closure had branches in Nairobi’s Kilimani, Westlands, Rosslyn and Karen neighbourhoods, which were billed as exuding a lively atmosphere, blending modern aesthetics with a touch of African artistry.

Samantha and Natalie had dreams of opening a flagship store in every continent, and grow from there.
The two sisters, whose father is Kenyan and mother Nigerian, grew up in England before relocating to Kenya.
