Bajaber leaves Harambee Stars CHAN camp for Tanzania’s Simba FC

Harambee Stars has suffered a blow as it prepares for the delayed 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament after fan favourite and former Police FC striker Mohamed Bajaber departed its camp to join Tanzania’s Simba FC.

Reports indicate that Bajaber left the camp on Thursday for the Tanzanian-based Male League top-tier side, making him ineligible to play the CHAN tournament, which requires players to play the domestic league for the countries involved.

However, as of Tuesday, the striker had not yet departed the country for Tanzania, but sources indicate that he is set to be unveiled by Simba as their latest signing soon after he travels to their camp.

“I can confirm that he had not yet travelled to Tanzania but will be unveiled by the club soon,” the source told local media.

Shabana FC striker Brian Michira has been called to replace Bajaber.

Born in March 2003, Bajaber became a Harambee Stars Fan favorite during his performance when he was substituted in during the 62nd minute at the World Cup qualifiers match when he equalized the three draw against Gambia.

He made his debut during the friendly match against Burkina Faso in January, which led to him being called again in March during the World Cup qualifiers.

Previously, he was playing for the National Super League team, Nairobi City Stars, which he joined in 2021 after having trials with the Danish side FC Midtjylland for two weeks.

Police FC, won FKF Premier League winners Police FC for the first last season, signed him in February this year.

Last season, Simba FC finished second in the Tanzania Premier League, four points behind their rivals Yanga FC after garnering 78 points from 30 matches.

They won 25 matches, drew three matches, and lost two matches.

He developed his football talent at the Star Field Academy in Parklands, where he later went to the Danish top-tier club for trials.
