British man killed by Ruto’s motorcade was visiting his sister in Kenya

Fredrick's body was moved from the Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly City Mortuary, to Lee Funeral Home awaiting postmortem

The British national, who was killed in a hit-and-run incident involving a vehicle in President William Ruto’s motorcade along Ngong Road, was in the country visiting his sister and nephew, the BBC reports.

79-year-old Edgar Charles Frederick died on Thursday after died instantly after being struck by a vehicle attached to the Nairobi regional commissioner’s office.

Police spokesman Michael Muchiri told the BBC that Frederick had been visiting Kenya to see his sister and nephew who are residents of the country.

He is said to have been a popular figure in the area thanks to his generosity to street families whom he gave alms to.

Reports indicated he was headed to the mosque when the vehicle, which was following the president’s convoy hit him.

Muchiri said the driver of the vehicle was arrested and released on bail pending arraignment in court.

“Investigations are underway and the vehicle has been inspected with the necessary action procedurally taken. The driver of the government motor vehicle attached to the Nairobi  Regional Coordinator’s office is out on cash bail awaiting arraignment in court,” he said.

Following the incident, police appear to have taken precaution. Unlike other days when the president’s convoy sped from State House, today, the motorcade drove at a checked pace.

And instead of an outrider hooting to clear the road ahead of the speeding motorcade, a traffic policewoman walked up and down State House Road from the junction with Kenyatta Avenue shouting at pedestrians to get off the road as he left for a tour of Eastlands.

Fredrick’s body was moved from the Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly City Mortuary, to Lee Funeral Home awaiting postmortem.
