Boda boda riders enjoy free fuel in Nairobi courtesy of Omanga

Nairobi Woman Representative aspirant Millicent Omanga has today bought boda boda riders in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) fuel.
Several boda boda riders were spotted waiting up in line to obtain the valuable commodity at one of the CBD’s petrol stations.
Omanga yesterday night offered to fuel the first 500 boda bodas riders at one of the Naivasha road petrol stations.
“My boda boda people tomorrow morning I will be at Naivasha Road to buy fuel for the first 500 boda boda riders who will spot me in one of the petrol stations. (Watu wangu wa senke kesho saa moja asubuhi nitakua Naivasha Road nikiweka free fuel to the first 500 boda bodas to spot me in one of the petrol stations. Come tuboreshe biz na Omanga),” she stated.
May inflation rose further as fuel prices reached a record high in the most recent monthly review despite the usage of a fuel subsidy.
A litre of gasoline will cost Sh150.12 shillings ($1.29) in Nairobi, while diesel prices will rise 4.4 per cent to Sh131 a litre on May 15, according to an emailed statement from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority. Kerosene prices increased by Sh5.50 to Sh118.94 shillings per litre.
This is the highest price for fuel since Kenya began pricing gasoline, diesel and kerosene in December 2010.
Rising fuel prices have been a major driver to price growth in East Africa’s largest economy over the last year, but their impact on inflation has been mitigated by a stability fund that has resulted in consumers paying falsely low rates.
