Ex-AG Amos Wako to defend Raila in presidential petition

Former Attorney General and outgoing Busia Senator Amos Wako has confirmed that he will defend Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga at the Supreme court once the former premier heads to the corridor of justice.

Wako will join a legal team assembled together by Raila to challenge President-elect William Ruto’s win at the Supreme Court.

Speaking during a funeral service on Saturday, August 20, Wako assured Kenyans that Raila will be filing a petition by Monday, August 22, 2022.

“I am a senior counsel and Azimio la Umoja called me saying that I should return to Nairobi and look into the case that Raila’s lawyer has prepared by Monday, August 22, the case will be there,” Wako said.

Raila has since disputed the presidential results announced by Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati.

The former premier has pledged to seek legal redress after Wafula Chebukati declared Ruto as the fifth president.

“We are pursuing constitutional and lawful channels to invalidate Chebukati’s illegal and unconstitutional pronouncement. We are certain that justice will prevail,” Raila said.

Raila further urged his supporters to maintain peace and calm as his team pursues constitutional avenues to invalidate the results announced by Chebukati.
