Betika, a leading gambling firm owned by Shop & Deliver Limited has denied having suffered alleged cyber security breach and money through hacking.
In a response to a questionnaire by The Informer Media Group, Betika’s Group Head of PR & Communications Katherine Arudo also clarified that Betika is neither a victim of hacking nor is it a party to the ongoing suit in which a 26-years old former Meru University Information Technology second-year dropout Seth Mwabe was charged before court for cyber related crimes and cash siphoning amounting to Sh11.4million.

“We acknowledge receipt of various media inquiries regarding a purported cyber security breach involving Betika and wish to provide clarity on the matter. At the onset, we would like to unequivocally state that Betika has not experienced any cyber security breach, nor has the company lost Sh11million as has been suggested. Betika is neither a complainant nor a victim in the matter currently before the courts. This fact can be independently verified with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who are handling the case.” Arudo said in a statement dated September 3, 2025.
Yesterday, The Informer Media Group sought clarification from Betika on the safety and security of private clients’ data held in their systems after earlier media reports indicated the gambling firm was the victim of hacking.
In their rejoinder, Betika said they have employed a robust client data protection security system that is multi-layered and encrypted to deter potential intrusion and abuse by third parties.
“That said, we appreciate the opportunity to highlight our commitment to cyber security and the protection of our customers. Betika employs advanced, multi-layered security systems including encryption, intrusion detection, continuous monitoring, and regular third-party audits. These measures ensure the highest standards of privacy and data security for all customers,” the response by Arudo reads in part.
“Our systems remain uncompromised, and customer data has not been breached. We strictly adhere to global best practices in information security as well as relevant data protection regulations,” Betika said emphasising on the safety of the private data held in their systems.
“As part of our ongoing investment in cyber resilience, we continue to enhance our infrastructure, conduct frequent audits, train our teams, and engage with regulators and law enforcement to stay ahead of evolving threats. We therefore respectfully urge all media outlets to reflect the above facts in their reporting to ensure accuracy, fairness, and the avoidance of misrepresentation,” Arudo added.
Further, the gambling firm affirmed that they remain committed to transparency and to working with members of the press in providing audiences with accurate and verifiable information.
