Allocate more funds to support sporting activities, National Assembly Speaker Wetangula challenge MPs
The National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has challenged Members of Parliament (MPs) to allocate more funds to support sporting activities at their constituencies.
The Speaker said Kenya has a global sporting brand globally.
Speaking in Uasin Gishu County over the weekend, Saturday, December 6, 2025, Wetang’ula noted Kenya’s National Anthem has been played at the International Capitals because of the tenacity, determination, and will of the Country’s athletes.
He made the remarks while gracing the Third Edition of The Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run, Wetangula said Kenya has talent that knows no boundaries.
Mathew Kipkoech stormed to victory in the senior men’s race at the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run, while Dorcus Chepkwemoi Ndiema claimed the women’s title at the World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold meeting.
Both athletes mastered a brutal course on Chepsaita’s rolling hills that humbled hundreds of runners across categories.
“We are always proud to watch our Kenyan sportsmen and women win races in the international Arena. Every time I see our boys and girls winning on the international platforms, I feel more proud as a Kenyan.”
The annual event is organised by the Personal Assistant to President William Ruto, Farouk Kibet.
Wetang’ula commend Farouk for the great initiative that has given talent space to be nurtured across the age groups.
“In my capacity as the Speaker of the National Assembly, I urge Members of Parliament to allocate more resources to sports to grow talents. I commit to always support the sporting activities.”
The Speaker emphasised; “We must love each other and support President Ruto and his Government to ensure that the leadership achieves its dream. Our talents have no boundary and they will take us where we must be. We must all be proud as Kenyans.”
Area Governor Jonathan Bii said his leadership will continue to support sports activities.
“We have seen young people participating in various sporting activities. It is an honor to have such people and we are assured of the future in sports.”
Kakamega Governor Fernades Barasa said he will launch another edition of the event to support talent across the Country.
“The organiser has shown us the way; we will follow in the footsteps. This is major milestone in our Country’s sporting activities.” he noted.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Prof Julius Bitok said the event continues to nurture talents across the Country.
“The Government has done a lot on Education. I am proud that today’s event has been planned to solely support matters Education.”
World athletics Champion Paul Tergat said the event motivates many who want to earn through sports.
“We will have many talents into the future. All stakeholders should embrace the idea that we can have our young people actively participating in sports.” said Paul.
Nandi Woman Rep Muge Cynthia called for inclusion of the Country’s leadership in sporting activities.
“We are proud as a Nation that we have been recognized globally because of talent. All of us must join hands never to lose this great talent.” she noted.
