PSC shortlists candidates for Registrar of Political Parties position

Another 10 candidates have also been shortlisted for the position of Assistant Registrar of Political Parties

Ten candidates have been shortlisted by the Public Service Commission (PSC) to fill the vacant position of Registrar of Political Parties.

They include Sophia Kaindi Sitati Mudhengi, a Chief State Counsel in the Attorney General’s Office, who is currently holding the position in an acting capacity.

Others are  Assistant Registrars of Political Parties Ali Abdullahi Surrar and Florence Tabu Birya, Director Strategy Research and ComplianceCommission on Administrative Justice Geoffrey Obonyo, Global Ambassador for the UN’s Gender Priority Strategy Evelyne Cherotich Koiyan, Kehancha Senior Resident Magistrate Aloyce Peter Ndege and Commission on Administrative Justice Secretary/CEO Mercy Kalondu Wambua, Manna W. E. Rodgers, lawyer Rahma Adan Jillo, Lorionokou John Cox.

The candidates are set to appear for an interview before PSC on Monday next week at the PSC offices on Harambee Avenue, Nairobi.

PSC has also shortlisted 10 candidates for the position of Assistant Registrar of Political Parties.

They include Seth Odhiambo Onyango, Josephine Kirion Ergaeo, Simon Owawa Nyamolo (PWD), Chebett Koske, Julius Cheche, Peter Mutui, Agatha Wanjiku Wahome, Mohamed Abdullahi Abdi, Robert Psakit Botter, and Gilbert William Opanga.

In a notice issued by PSC, the shortlisted candidates are required to arrive at the venue at least 20 minutes before the scheduled start time.

PSC noted that the candidates should bring originals of the National Identity Card, Academic and Professional Certificates and transcripts, and any other supporting documents and testimonials.

They are also required to have current and valid clearances from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), any of the Registered Credit Reference Bureaus, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Police Clearance Certificate) and a letter of recognition of qualifications from the Commission for University Education (CUE) for any degree obtained from foreign universities.

Further, the commission urged members of the public to provide any information of interest relating to the shortlisted candidates through sworn affidavits to the Secretary/CEO via email [email protected].

The affidavits can also be hand delivered to the Office of the Secretary/CEO, Public Service Commission situated on the 4th floor Commission House, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi by Friday, August 8.

The position fell vacant following the recent appointment of Anne Nderitu as a member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), which was created by the 2010 Constitution, is mandated to to register and regulate political parties and also administer the Political Parties Fund (PPF).

The position is a powerful office tasked with registering, monitoring and supervising political parties to ensure compliance with the law; administering the PPF in accordance with the law; ensuring the publication of audited annual accounts of political parties; maintaining and verifying registers of party members, making verified membership lists publicly available and ensuring no individual is a member of more than one political party.

Others including keeping an updated register of all registered political parties and their official symbols; confirming that independent candidates are not affiliated with any registered political party; certifying that their chosen symbols do not resemble those of political parties; certifying that names in submitted party lists belong to actual members of the presenting party; overseeing party nomination processes in line with the Political Parties Act; and investigating complaints and disputes as provided for under the Act.
