Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has promised Ferdinand Omanyala a new limousine once he jets back into the country from the ongoing Commonwealth Games after his heroics in the global event.
Omanyala scooped a gold medal in the 100 m finals to bring home the first title in the short distance race after a 62 year wait.
According to the former County Chief, he will line up 15 limousines to welcome him at the airport and gift one to him.
The former governor said Omanyala deserves the best treatment for making Kenyans proud after winning the first gold medal for the country in the games.
“While you were asleep, our very own Ferdinand Omanyala, who is the fastest man in Africa, won for Kenya a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, clocking 10.02 seconds,” Sonko wrote on his social media platforms.
Sonko further urged the government to allow him arrange a welcome home party for 10 days to welcome the newly crowned champion with 15 limousines in tow to take him home while capping it with a free limousine.
“Congratulations Omanyala! I want to urge the government to allow me arrange one big party for 10 days while you will be received by 15 limousines and I shall gift you one for you to keep for making Kenya proud,” Sonko said.
Omanyala clocked 10.02 seconds to dislodge Akani Simbine (10.07) of South Africa who settled for silver with Sri Lankan Yupun Abeykoon claiming bronze.
