Lugulu Girls’ students take to the streets to protest alleged defilement in the school
Lugulu Girls’ High School students on today went on a rampage to protest alleged defilement incident of a 16-year-old fellow student in school.
The irate students accused the school principal of attempting to cover up the matter.
They claimed that the school head had threatened students who witnessed the incident.
In highly charged demos along the Webuye-Kitale Highway in Bungoma County, the students called for immediate investigations by the Ministry of Education pointing an accusing finger against the school management for failing to act and instead urged them to remain silent.
“The girl, who was on the verge of being sexually assaulted, raised the alarm, forcing the suspect to flee,” the girls said in a statement filed at the Webuye Police Station.
The KCSE candidates claim they informed the school’s administration on Saturday morning, but no action was taken.
“It is that grievance that led to today’s incident (protests),” says the police report.
According to the girls, teachers were also warned against calling the victim’s parents.
The students later managed to get the audience of Webuye Police Station OCS and reported the incident.
