A warrant of arrest has been issued against Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel who is facing charges of assault against fellow nominated legislator Sarah Korere.
This is after Lempurkel who is alleged to have committed the act at Harambee House in Nairobi failed to appear in court for the hearing of his case yesterday.
Milimani senior resident magistrate Hellen Onkwani issued the orders following application by senior state counsel Lindrey Mugambi who also demanded that the Sh100,000 cash bail should be forfeited.
The magistrate declined the accused lawyer’s claim that her client was unwell and directed that the accused should avail his medical documents on the next mention date.
The prosecutor informed the court that they were ready for the hearing of the case with the availability of more than four witnesses including complainant Korere.
Lempurkel is charged with causing bodily harm to Korere, an offence he allegedly committed on November 21, 2016.
The prosecution has charged that Lempurkel willfully and unlawfully assaulted the nominated MP by slapping her on her left cheek and kicking the lower part of her abdomen.
But Lempurkel has also accused Korere of beating him which forced him to seek medical attention in a clinic before being transferred to Karen Hospital after suffering a bout of dizziness.
He stated that after being discharged from hospital a day later, he went to Parliament Police Station to report the matter but instead got arrested.
