Kirinyaga County government has confirmed ten patients admitted at Sagana-sub County, Kimbimbi and Kerugoya County hospital for treatment are suffering from highly contagious Cholera disease.
According to CEC health Dr Agnes Wanjiru Sagana town, Kwa V slums and its environs have been put on high alert following an outbreak of cholera at Kwa V and Mugamba ciura village in the lower part of Mwea constituency.
Speaking to press the CEC revealed that the patients started having diarrhea on Saturday and tested positive for vibrio cholera, a virus that causes cholera.
She said after thorough investigations public health officers have confirmed the disease originated from poor water handling after water sources got contaminated following heavy down pour being experienced in the county.
She said after the test were taken to Nairobi government chemist, ten cases were confirmed positive while others are still undergoing various testing.
