Thirteen Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) Saccos are under probe over the loss of Sh3.4million in fraudulent seasonal parking ticket sale at City Hall.
Preliminary investigations into payment of seasonal tickets using company cheques indicate 12 matatu saccos forwarded 18 copies of bad cheques to Nairobi County Government treasury department being payment for sessional parking tickets for the month of October.
Director of Investigation at City Hall Paul Wachira said the cheques were drawn by New Century Society Distribution Limited Equity Bank, Kilimani Branch and Mamba Saving and credit Co-operative Consolidated Bank, Koinange Branch.
Consolidated, Equity and Co-operative Banks have also been served with court orders over the fraud.
“Court orders have been served on Consolidated Bank, Equity Bank and Co-operative Bank to obtain more information and documents evidence on the case,”said Wachira.
Detectives at the county government have also launched a massive crackdown on the vehicles denying the county its legal revenue through such illegal deals.
He stated the syndicate involves the sacco brokers and county officials in the treasurer department to defraud City Hall.
Albert Oringo Mandela and Dominic Wanyoike were charged before a city court on Friday with conspiring to defraud the County Government.
The accused pretended they were in a position to issue seasonal tickets for Nairobi County Government to a number of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).
They were released on cash bail of Sh100,000 or Sh750, 000 with one surety each.The case to be mentioned on November 1.
