Court issues arrest warrants against Annour Sadate, Gilbert Omollo in Sh13million gold scamming case
A Nairobi court has issued warrant of arrest against two men accused of defrauding a foreigner of over Sh13 million in a gold scam.
Milimani Principal Magistrate Teressia Nyangena issued arrest warrant against Mohamed Annour Sadate and Gilbert Omollo Orwe alias David Gweth after they failed to appear in court to answer to the charges.
The court rejected an explanation presented by a lawyer representing one of the suspects, that they were not aware that they were required to appear for plea taking.
The lawyer also claimed that one of the suspects was unwell.
The police were directed to locate, apprehend, and produce them before a court without delay.
A charge sheet registered in court stated that the two men obtained put me a sign of US dollar 101,400 (about Kshs13.1 million) from Sardar Mohamad Tabraiz by falsely pretending that they were in a position to sell to him 2,000 kgs of gold.
The charge sheet further stated that they committed the offence on diverse dates between April 6 and 30 June 2022 in Nairobi, jointly with others yet to be arrested and presented before court.
The duo further allegedly forged a rejection letter for export, purporting it to be a valid and genuine document issued by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
Orwe is also accused of making a certificate of origin, purporting it to be a valid and issued by Common Market for East African and Southern Africa (COMESA) Community Customs, without lawful authority.
According to the prosecution, the duo presented the document as genuine with plans to defraud Tabraiz.
