A 38 year old man was on Monday charged in a Kigumo court in Murang’a County with molesting and infecting a boy with Humane Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
Mwangi Kamau who appeared before the Kigumo Chief Magistrate Agneta Ogonda was accused of sodomising the 15 year old boy in Igikiro village on unknown dates early in 2016.
The court heard that the accused lured the boy to his house, tied his hands and legs with a rope and gagged him using a piece of cloth before sexually molesting him.
The accused then gave the boy sh.50 and warned him not to disclose the incident to anyone.
He later demand the money back when he met the minor again before sodomising him without using any protection.
The minor’s parents learnt about the molestation when the boy who has since been put on antiretroviral drugs, tested HIV positive.
A doctor’s report confirmed that the boy was sodomised but had no injuries.
Other family members including siblings were tested for HIV and found to be negative and a probe on how he contracted the virus forced him to confess that he was molested.
The accused was arrested on September 19, 2016 by a police officer from Sabasaba police post when an angry mob wanted to lynch him.
He denied the charge and rejected the police officer handling the case saying he did not arrest him and cannot testify against him. The officer who arrested him has since been transferred to Rongai.
The case was set for another hearing on October 9, 2017. The accused has been in remand.
