Members of Parliament from Turkana and a section of professionals from the region now want the Jubilee party to retain Ekwe Ethuro to the position of the speaker of the senate.
The leaders while making the appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta said that the position was to highest ever held by the community and urged him to prevail upon other candidates from the party to step down in favour of Ethuro.
Led by Loima ODM MP elect Jeremiah Ekamais, the leaders said the seat is set-aside for pastoralists’ communities to represent their interests.
“We are concerned about the debate going around in media over lobbying by various communities to clinch the Senate Speaker to dethrone Ethuro.” Ekamais said.
The MPs who included, Lopdepe Nakara, Turkana Central, Joyce Emanikor, Turkana County mp and Mohammed Lokim, Turkana East, asked their colleagues from the region to shelve their local rifts and rally behind Ethuro.
Addressing the the press at parliament buildings, the MPs also asked senators from the opposition to support Ethuro.
