Drama was witnessed yesterday after county officers from Bomet county tried blocking journalists from taking photos of the governor’s vehicle after he was involved in an accident where one person sustained serious injuries.
Bomet governor Hillary Barchok’s dark blue Prado was yesterday involved in an accident with a boda boda at the Kipsorwet area along Bomet-Longisa road where one person sustained severe injuries.
The governor, his aide and the driver escaped unhurt and Barchok was driven out of the scene immediately in a different vehicle that stopped at the scene.
However, a pillion passenger who was riding on a boda boda sustained critical injuries.
The governor’s head of press unit Joy Terer said the governor was unhurt and had been there after engaged in meetings.
“Governor Barchok was not injured and has been engaged in official meetings with Diamond Trust Bank Manager for the South Rift region.” She said.
Reports indicate that the boda boda rider who escaped with an injury on the forehead is a bursar at a local school.
During the accident, governor Barchok was being driven from his home in Kapkimolwo when it happened.
Confirming the incident, Bomet Central Police Boss Musa Imamai faulted the boda boda rider for being on the wrong.
The police said the rider was traveling towards Bomet and made a U-turn where the governor’s vehicle hit him.
“The bodaboda rider was the one on the wrong. The passenger he was carrying was hurt and he escaped immediately after the incident but we are looking for him. The injured person was treated at Longisa referral hospital where he was rushed by good Samaritans and has been discharged.” He said.
