The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Eacc) has cleared Kenya’s Consul General nominee to Los Angeles, USA, the former Communications Authority (CA) Director General Ezra Chiloba of irregularity allegations at the authority.
According to the commission, investigations established that there was insufficient evidence to support the allegations made against Chiloba and other authority officials.
On September 26, 2023, the Commission received allegations of irregularities in the management of the staff mortgage scheme at the Communications Authority of Kenya.
Chiloba resigned as Director General of the Communication Authority of Kenya on October 18, 2023, shortly after he was suspended over Sh662.4 million mortgage scheme graft allegations on September 18, 2023.
Before his suspension, the former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO had served for two years.
A report investigating the audit of the CA Staff Mortgage Scheme carried out under a directive of the board on May 3, 2023, recommended an investigation on Chiloba to answer the same.
CA then suspended Chiloba from the Director General position and replaced him with Christopher Wambua in an acting capacity.
The committee also suspended four other officials for allegedly mismanaging the staff mortgage scheme where the government lost millions of shillings.
Chiloba is among the new faces who will represent Kenya in foreign missions as ambassadors, high commissioners and permanent representatives.
Catherine Kirumba Karemu has been nominated as Kenya’s High Commissioner to London, United Kingdom while Joash Arthur Maangi will serve in a similar position in Kampala, Uganda.
Others appointed as High Commissioners include Lilian Tomitom (Lusaka, Zambia), Vincent Mogaka Kemosi (Accra, Ghana) Caroline Kamende Daudi (Ottawa, Canada) and Lt Gen Peter Mbogo Njiru (Islamabad, Pakistan).
