The thin line between love and hate broke last evening after an aggrieved man travelled from Isebania in Migori County only to murder his college girlfriend on suspicion of betrayal in one of the most gruesome attacks in recent history.
Lucy Boke, a Kisii National Polytechnic first year student was killed by her visiting lover following a heated altercation after his arrival at her rental house in Jogoo estate on the outskirts of Kisii town.
Witness accounts indicated that the man locked himself with the student in her rental room before the heinous murder.
After neighbours forced the door open and found the young woman murdered, they descended on the suspect with kicks and blows leaving him in critical condition.
Confirming the incident, police in Kisii said they were called after the mob vent their burning anger on the suspect, baying for his blood.
The suspect allegedly stabbed Lucy in the neck, leading to her instantaneous death occasioned by excessive bleeding.
“When we arrived, we found that the lady had been killed by the man said to be an ex-boyfriend. We found the lady’s body on the floor. The suspect had gone to visit the lady for reasons we do not know, and they started quarrelling.” A police officer told reporters.
According to the brother of the landlord, where the young lady was a tenant, the suspect locked himself in the house and refused to open until the door was broken. The badly mutilated body of the 23-year-old student was found inside her one room rental house.
“When we came here, we found he had already locked himself up in her house. We tried to persuade him to open the door, but he did not. We called for the police, but before they arrived, students from the polytechnic came and managed to gain access to the house. They gave him a beating and he was rescued from the angry crowd by the police from Kisii Police Station.” He said.
Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kases said the student’s body was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary while the suspect was fighting for his life at the same facility as they launched investigations.
