Soon after assuming office as the principal secretary in the State Department for Citizen Services in the Ministry of Interior, Ambassador Professor Julius Bitok has today received 15 vehicles donated to the National Police Service NPS from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for use in Dadaab and Kakuma Refugee Camps.
While handing over the vehicles to NPS Director of Planning and Finance David Njagi in the presence of the Chief Transport Officer Administration Police Service Edward Achola and Caroline Van Buren, a representative from UNHCR, the PS pointed out that the vehicles will enhance police mobility and efficiency in providing security to the public.
“This donation is meant to play a key role in patrol and service delivery by boosting security and safety of citizens residing in the area of Dadaab and Kakuma Refugee Camps,” observed Bitok.
During the handing over ceremony, Bitok outlined three key areas of focus as he took on the PS mantle anchored on immigration where his plan would be to transform the department into a service that can be more responsive to the needs of Kenyans.
The PS alluded that plans were underway to digitise a target of 5,000 services and to rebrand the Huduma number to a more respectable service.
“I promise the members of this state department to stick to the law and I look forward to working with all players in this state department,” revealed Bitok.
The vehicles were flagged off by Bitok on behalf of the Kenyan government.
