The government is meeting the officials of the Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) to end the nationwide strike which is on its third week.
The meeting chaired by Health Principal secretary Julius Korir and Director of Medical Services Jackson Kioko started at around 11am and went on until late in the evening.
By the time of going to press, the closed-door meeting was still ongoing as the two sides maintained their hard line positions.
Knun officials have accused both the national and county governments of frustrating the implementation of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) which they had agreed on.
The union’s acting secretary general Morris Opetu demanded that the document should be signed and registered in court for them to be able to resume their duties.
This comes as the Council of Governors led by the chairman Josphat Nanok has termed the ongoing nurses’ strike illegal, saying the right procedure was not followed for industrial action as stipulated in law.
