The 21 officers formerly attached to the disbanded Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Special Service Unit (SSU) have been summoned to appear before the Head of Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) tomorrow.
Through a circular by the DCI, the officers were instructed to avail themselves before the newly appointed head of IAU John Gachomo.
“The following officers formerly of Special Service Unit are hereby summoned to avail themselves before the Director Internal Affairs Unit KCB towers upperhill on Friday,” the circular read.
The officers were allegedly involved in the controversial arrest of two Asians, Mohammed Zaid Sami Kidwai and Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan and their taxi driver Nicodemus Mwania near the Ole Sereni area in July this year.
All officers were recalled back to headquarters and sent on a 30 days’ compulsory leave.
President William Ruto had recently issued directives to the Acting Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow to disband the elite unit stating that the unit had been turned into a militia used to execute Kenyans.
During the 59th Mashujaa Day celebrations today, he said that investigations into the ongoing abductions be conducted and those found culpable be held to account.
